The scores of the psychological thriller films of the 1950s and 1960s have some of the most haunting music ever written. It is also, in turns, terrifying, ominous and anxiety producing. But it's that haunting quality that most fascinates me. This piece is my attempt to capture that haunting quality. My guide was a series of memories of Hitchcock films, many of which were scored by the amazing Bernard Herrmann.
The result is this string quartet in A Freygish (also known as Phrygian dominant), with the odd minor 3rd snuck in from time to time. Being a string quartet, it features two violins, a viola and a cello.
Image generated with an AI image generator whose name I didn't write down, but which has either a blatant disregard for walls or a thing for really big windows.
