Omega watches in James Bond Movies
Omega's idea to use product placement to make the Seamaster the watch of choice for James Bond was a brilliant decision which has been extensively analyzed and praised. This one advertising idea elevated the fame and mass appeal of the Seamaster and Omegas in general. It ushered in the modern Seamaster professional and created many new aficionados of that watch. Terms like "Bond bracelet" or "Aqua Terra Skyfall" have become commonplace among watch collectors, forever linking these
watches with the Bond character and movies.
While the James Bond character originally wore a Rolex (as seen in the earlier films), today the character is very much associated with Omega.
Whether we like this type of marketing or not (to some it is clever, to others phoney), it is certainly effective and has probably influenced the buying decisions of most collectors, either directly or subconsciously.
In this short video, I show all the watches featured in the James Bond movies from 1995-2002, including some hands-on views of the most quintessential "Bond" Seamaster, the 41mm 2531.80 Seamaster Professional 300m, which was featured in 3 different Bond movies, along with being found in its quartz equivalent (2541.80) in 1995's "Goldeneye."
