The night before this year's PinFest, we got into Allentown in the early evening. Original plans were to meet up with family and grab some dinner, but unfortunately due to an unexpected case of the flu on my father's side, that was put on hold. So, naturally, we pivoted and did what we do best... went to go check out some arcades! And one of the places near the top of our list was the brand new Monster Mini Golf location which just opened in Allentown earlier last month. I was pretty familiar with this spot, to be honest; for one, it's right around the corner from Dorney Park, and second of all, it's in the former location of Teppan, a Japanese hibachi restaurant I used to go to all the time back when I lived in the area. I was pretty eager to see what Monster Mini Golf had done with the place, and quite frankly, painting it in their trademark blacklight and neon gives it a massive pop.
First things first, let's talk about the arcade section. I've been to a few Monster Mini Golfs before and sometimes the arcade can be top notch, and other times it can be an afterthought. Well, here it's clear they spared no expense to fill it with a wide variety of modern arcade and redemption games. Of course there's some standards that you've come to expect over the years such as Quik Drop and Jurassic Park, but there were quite a few newer games out on the floor, such as Fast & Furious Arcade, Godzilla Kaiju Wars VR, Surf League, NBA Superstars, and Skill Fall Revolution. I was also surprised to see that they got a deluxe model of StepManiaX; the only other Monster Mini Golf I've seen a SMX at, they had the sound turned down so low it was unplayable, but here it's audible and in great condition! Furthermore, this was the first place I've seen certain games make their debut. Angry Birds Boom! is basically a reskin of the Nerf Arcade cabinet but with Angry Birds destroy-the-pigs gameplay, and Tower Island... well... I wasn't a fan, let's just leave it at that.
