Captain John Merrill (John Ireland), commander of an Air Force bomber based on Okinawa, is ordered to destroy a Yalu River bridge. Merrill hopes to return to Sami (Marla English), an Okinawan girl with whom he is infatuated.
Besides co-pilot Paul Jenkins (Bill Williams) and Sgt. Al Trask (Hugh Beaumont), Merrill's crew is composed of Jockey (Chet Baker) and Buddy Lewis (Larry Pennell). Buddy wants to marry Sami.
The bomber completes the mission successfully, fighting off enemy attacks to do it. Badly hit, and with Jockey fatally wounded, the plane limps home. Merrill orders Lewis to ask the Colonel for permission to wed Sami.
