"MALBATT: Misi Bakara", also known as "MALBATT: Bakara Mission", is based on the true story of a Malaysian military operation to help rescue US Rangers trapped in a civil war in Somalia in 1993. The 19th Mechanized Royal Malay Regiment (Rejimen Askar Melayu DiRaja / RAMD) sets out on a mission to help save 70 U.S. Rangers that are cornered in the Bakaara Market, Mogadishu, Somalia in the Battle of Mogadishu. The Battle of Mogadishu, also known as the Black Hawk Down Incident, was part of Operation Gothic Serpent. It was fought on 3–4 October 1993, in Mogadishu, Somalia, between forces of the United States - supported by UNOSOM II - against Somali National Alliance (SNA) fighters and other insurgents in south Mogadishu. Casualties included 18 dead American soldiers and 73 wounded, with Malaysian forces suffering one death and seven wounded, and Pakistani forces two injuries.
