My name is Marysia, and I want to tell you about my extraordinary adventure. As I do every evening, I put my dolls on the shelf before bed, carefully arranging them in a row. But that night, something happened that I will never forget. In the middle of the night, I was woken by a strange feeling, as if someone was whispering in my ear. I opened my eyes and saw the room bathed in the pale moonlight streaming through the thin curtains. My heart froze. On the shelf where my dolls stood, something extraordinary was happening. They… were dancing! Their stiff arms moved with surprising grace, their dresses swayed as if lifted by an invisible breeze, and their tiny feet tapped softly on the wooden surface. A melody floated in the air, one I didn’t hear with my ears but felt in my heart. Paralyzed with fear and astonishment, I couldn’t tell if it was a dream or reality. The dolls twirled, their glass eyes glinting as if hiding a secret. One of them, in a short skirt, seemed to look straight at me. Her smile felt almost alive, mischievous, as if inviting me to join the dance. I wanted to scream, but my voice caught in my throat. Could it be? Had my dolls truly come to life? With effort, I forced myself to sit up in bed. My bare feet touched the cold floor, my heart pounding wildly. I looked at the shelf, ready for anything. But the dolls stood motionless, exactly where I had left them. Their eyes were empty, their arms hanging limply. The room was filled with a deafening silence, broken only by my rapid breathing. I don’t know if it was a dream or something more. Since that night, whenever I fall asleep, I feel the dolls’ gaze on me. Sometimes, in the absolute stillness, I think I hear the faint tapping of their dance on the shelf. Or perhaps it’s just my imagination?
