Kou Yamori is a typical middle school student who struggles to understand the complicated concept of love. He soon stops going to school because he sees no point in conforming to the norm. Kou, plagued by insomnia as a result of his inactivity, begins wandering the lonely streets at night. One night, Kou meets a strange girl named Nazuna Nanakusa, who believes that people stay awake at night because they are unhappy with how they spent their day and cannot sleep until they let go of their inhibitions. Nazuna offers to assist Kou with his sleeping problems and invites him to her home, where she persuades him to share a futon with her. Kou, who is uncomfortable, only pretends to sleep, which is when Nazuna bites him.
