Richard was taken in by a family of storks and is now spending the winter at the Great Lake in Northern Africa. Richard realizes he will not be leading his flock back north, so he decides to take off and travel alone. He encounters Samia and her group of sparrows along the journey, who are being held captive by crafty marabous under the command of the avaricious peacock Zamano.
