Life is simpler for Hikari Tsutsui within the two-dimensional realm. He is socially awkward and immerses himself in video games and anime to escape the ridicule and exclusion of his classmates. His only friend, Yuuto Itou, shares his obsession with gaming, but they both remain outcasts.
While cleaning the pool as punishment, Tsutsui meets Iroha Igarashi, but tries to avoid her due to her notorious reputation. She is blunt and disliked by female classmates, and known for messing around with boys. Tsutsui believes getting involved with her would only bring trouble.
The story of 3D Kanojo: Real Girl revolves around these two outcasts. Tsutsui experiences a range of emotions he has never felt before and struggles to express them, while Igarashi tries to bring him out of his shell.
