Living as a recluse, Jinta Yadomi spends his days avoiding school and playing video games at home. One summer day, his childhood friend, Meiko "Menma" Honma, returns from the dead and begs him to fulfill a forgotten wish. Jinta ignores her, irritating the persistent Menma. However, Jinta remains indifferent to her plea since Menma died years ago. Initially, Jinta believes that he is imagining Menma's presence due to the scorching heat. However, he soon realizes that Menma is indeed a ghost. Menma's sudden appearance prompts Jinta and his childhood friends to reunite after years of drifting apart. Together, they work towards helping Menma move on, while also confronting their repressed emotions and guilt. Can they muster the courage to give Menma the peace she deserves and find solace themselves?
