This idea is such a kind of cultural touchstone here that it's entered the everyday language and people will use the phrase "it's like marmite" or "it's marmite" to mean something divisive.
"Have you met Carol's new boyfriend?"
"Oh yeah. I thought he was a right laugh, but I can see how he might be a bit marmite."
It's only occurred to me just now that this must make no sense to people from other places! 😆
