"Labyrinth Story" (the same original title, foreign subscript: Manie-Manie) is an animation film adapted from Taku Meimura's short story "XYZ in the Pocket" (original title: ポケットのXYZ). The film includes three units: "Maze * Labyrinth" (ラビリンス * ラビリントス), "Running Man" (走る男), and "Project Suspension Order" (Fortification Suspension Order), which is composed of short stories. The film length is 50 minutes. The film was originally scheduled to be released in 1986 at the same time as Kadokawa’s main animated feature film "Time Traveler" (original title: Time Space Traveler), but it was replaced by "Fire Bird Phoenix" due to the lack of production progress. After completion, it was first screened at the "Tokyo Fantasy Film Festival '87" on September 25, 1987, and the video tape was launched in the same year. Two years later, in April 1989, it was launched in theaters as a small-scale single theater release. The reason why it has not been released during this period is because the then producer Haruki Kadokawa, after seeing the finished product, thought that the style was too avant-garde and left on the shelf.
