Su Monian was a teacher in North City. Her boss wanted to keep her as a mistress after seeing she was alone, but when rejected, he fired her out of anger. After being fired, Su Monian came to teach at a rural school where she met her student Xinxin. Upon seeing the scars on Xinxin's body, Su was reminded of her own childhood experience with domestic violence, felt sympathy, and wanted to help Xinxin. Su Monian kept trying to find evidence of Xinxin being abused, even following Xinxin's stepfather and mother, but they hid it well. Xinxin also seemed very close to her mother. Just as Su decided to give up and return to work in the city, Xinxin found Su and asked her to take her away. After an internal struggle, Su took Xinxin and they began their journey as fugitives.
