This work chronicles the legendary life of Japanese-born People’s Liberation Army soldier Sa Yuan Hui, shedding light on the little‑known true history of this unique group. Born in Kyushu, Japan, in 1933, Sa Yuan Hui moved to Northeast China with her parents at an early age. Following Japan’s defeat and surrender, unable to return home, she found herself stranded and took up the task of tending cattle for a landlord in Liaoning. In 1948, adopting the name Zhang Rongqing, she joined the People’s Liberation Army and went on to participate in the Liaoshen and Pingjin Campaigns, dedicating herself to the proletarian revolutionary cause.
