A song about religious hypocrisy, as relevant now as it was 35 years ago, with lyrics by Nils Tietgen. Its radical musical style shifts still thrill me! As do Nils's lyrics, which are at times sarcastic, at times satirical, and at times deadly serious. It comes from a January 4, 1990, rehearsal of the Kiel, West Germany, punk band Sergeant Slaughter, held in the basement machine shop of a youth center. Recorded on a primitive 1989 Sony Walkman (portable cassette player) using its built-in microphones.
This version was remastered in July, 2025. The result is still far from perfect, but considering the quality of the source recording, it's a great improvement. You can hear the unremastered version of this song here: https://youtu.be/_w_ezMtpovY
Nils Tietgen (guitar and vocals), Scott Sadowsky (bass), Ted Fröhlich † (drums).

LYRICS:
The priest says you must love (Ha ha ha ha!)
the lord up above.
He says: "You must have obedience, (heh!)
cause thinking is one of the most vicious sins!"
CHORUS:
The love they preach is hate!
Blind acceptance is the key to heaven's gate!
We don't need the christian lies!
We've got our own love, minds and lives!
Now listen!
The christian ethic is extraction,
and the power monger's satisfaction.
"If you don't do what we want you to,
you'll go straight to hell where they slaughter you".
But it was only a human who died on the cross,
not the only son of a made-up boss.
In his name they make you kill billions of men.
What's holy about that?
