I went to Totally Rad Vintage Fest & ended up on CBS 2 New York.

This past weekend, my son and I journeyed out to the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, New Jersey to check out the Totally Rad Vintage Fest, a traveling flea market that ventures from city to city with a mix of vendors, photo ops, exhibits, and even a retro arcade section. The doors opened pretty early in the morning, and we walked in right around 8:30 as they were still setting up. Although the retro arcade was nothing to write home about, consisting mainly of five iCade cabinets and two cocktail cabs, there were plenty of vendors out on the floor with a wide variety of merch for sale. The main focus was on vintage clothing, with racks upon racks of throwback styles every which way you turn. Other folks were set up selling 80's toys, classic video game consoles and cartridges, sports and trading cards, collectible pins and patches, and even some homemade art pieces! The biggest surprise came when we got stopped by CBS 2 New York's roving weather guy, John Elliott! He asked us a couple of questions, we chatted for a little bit, and took a selfie together. Then later on in the morning, we caught up with him again, and he did a brief interview with us live on the air about baseball cards and arcade games while we were playing Frogger in the retro arcade section. He was awesome, warm, and genuine, and very cool to meet in person! All in all, while I didn't walk out of there with any new purchases, my son ended up picking up a bunch of baseball cards and got some freebies as well. But I had a blast checking out all the booths, and seeing a lot of stuff that brought back memories of my youth! If it comes to a town near you, it might be worth checking out the show!
